BLUE-WINGED TEAL Spatula discors

An abundant species found over much of the USA and Canada, migrating south as far as northern South America, with many records of vagrancy including almost annually in the UK. Whilst males of this and the previous species are markedly different, the relatively drab females present an identification problem, all share the same large bill showing ther relationship to shovelers. Unlike the previous species ther is only one race, although some males tend to be more richly coloured.
