CINNAMON TEAL Spatula cyanoptera

Closely related to Blue-winged Teal, a short-distance migrant occurring in western United States and Central America, and southern South America. No less than five races have been described, differences are slight but the race occuring in the US, septentrionalium, has been shown to have a five-times greater genetic divergence than the other four races. Hybrids with Blue-winged Teal are common, and vagrancy to the UK has been suspected, but escapes are far more likely. Vagrants have however, occurred on Hawaii.
