CHATHAM (ISLAND) SHAG Leucocarbo onslowi

Another endemic numbering less than 1000 birds, due to the human population of the Chathams and associated activities it is considered Critically Endangered. Most colonies are on the main island, including around Te Whanga Lagoon, which is brackish, but the largest colony is on Star Keys, which are uninhabited (east of Pitt Island). Whilst birds often roost on other islands in the group, it has never been recorded anywhere else.
