SNOWY PLOVER Charadrius nivosus

Fairly recently split from Kentish Plover, in fact not universally agreed on, this bird looks quite different, being paler with little or no rufous in the plumage, hence the name. Found primarily from southern USA to Chile, it is far more common on coasts than inland, which of course brings it in to conflict with beach-lovers. These photos were taken at Huntington Beach California, where at least some birds breed on the marsh at nearby Bolsa Chica.
