PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER Pluvialis apricaria

Probably the rarer of the species pair as a visitor to Britain, but slightly more widespread worldwide, breeding across Arctic regions of Asia and into Alaska. Its winter quarters are far more extensive, from the eastern fringes of the Indian Ocean to Asia and across many Pacific Islands including Australia and New Zealand. Alaskan breeders fly straight across the Pacific to Hawaii. Generally more coastal than its American counterpart.
