GOLDEN PLOVER Pluvialis apricaria

A common and widespread Eurasian species, familiar as forming winter flocks in the UK and Europe. Breeding further north towards the Arctic, the resplendent breeding plumage is not seen that often, although many migrants are in partial moult. Birds do breed on moorland in the UK, and are well worth seeking out.
