MAGELLANIC OYSTERCATCHER Haematopus leucopodus

Confined to the southern tip of South America, including the Falklands. Although similar to other pied species it uniquely has a yellow eye-ring and iris, and may also be distinguished in flight by the wing pattern. Largely sedentary except for some northwards movement from Tierra del Fuego and towards coastal areas in winter.
