CHATHAM ISLAND OYSTERCATCHER Haematopus chathamensis

Obviously an endemic, this is one of the hardest oystercatchers to see for obvious reasons, and also probably the most endangered due to its limited range. Whilst numerically still quite common on the Chathams, the only ones we saw were from a bouncing zodiac off Southeast Island, hence the poor photos included for the sake of completeness.
