CALIFORNIA GULL Larus californicus

An abundant breeding bird of the Western United States, the name is somewhat inappropriate since the majority of birds breed from northern California up into Canada. A somewhat nondescript bird, but actually fairly distinctive in appearance due to primary pattern and the bill in breeding plumage, whilst 1st winter birds have a clear cut black bill tip distinguishing them from Herring & Western Gulls.
