GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL Larus glaucescens

Mainly breeding down the north-west coast of North America, especially around the Bering Sea, this species hybridises extensively with Western Gull, and hybrids outnumber pure birds in some areas. There have been several Western Palearctic records, including in the UK, look out for the all-blackish bill of 1st winter birds. Adult birds are easily distinguished by their blue-grey wingtip pattern.
