Distinguished by and named for its black
underwings, this species breeds from eastern Europe to Central Asia, and
migrates, usually non-stop, to southern Africa. Vagrants occur across Europe
including Britain, where the adults were photographed. The 1st winter bird was taken in Uganda,
where it winters alongside Collared.
