Four races of this species occurred in South America,
two have now been split as Andean Teal Anas andium, which I have seen in Ecuador but not photographed.
The other races are oxyptera, which breeds in the Andes as far North as northern Chile, whilst the
nominate is found over much of the continent south of the Tropic of Cancer, although it only disperses to
some of that area from Tierra del Fuego and the southern tip.
