LESSER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE Anser erythropus

A Eurasian breeder on the tunda, commoner in Asia, but seemingly in decline in all areas. Wintering in southeastern Europe and south and east China, it is a smaller version of Whitefront, and can be difficult to identify at range. Closer and the yellow eye-ring stands out well and is diagnostic. Formerly quite regular in the UK among many countries, the decline means it is now a rare vagrant, the true situation being confused by escapes. These shots are obviously captive birds, wild birds in England have always been distant.
