PERUVIAN BOOBY Sula variegata

The closest relative of the previous species, breeding on the coast and islands from northern Peru to central Chile, and thus being one of the "guano" birds of the Humboldt Current. The most abundant seabird on the Peruvian coast, populations are subject to fluctuation because of El Nino events, however in the mid-twentieth century up to three million birds were estimated. Being close relatives, hybridisation with Blue-footed Boobies has occurred.
