Closely related to others in its genus, several of which were lumped at times, a bird of South-east Asian beaches from Thailand to Indonesia. Not
found in large numbers and currently considered Near-Threatened, it is affected by the development of tourism as its breeding habitats are lost. These birds were taken on the beach in front of our hotel
in Thailand. Like many similar species, the black collar (which is diagnostic) is indicative of a male.
