PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER Pluvialis fulva

In the UK, the rarer of the two golden plovers which together used to be Lesser Golden Plovers. Both tend to join flocks in autumn, where they can be difficult to pick out. However, there are often solo birds at other times of the year, when they may be in breeding plumage. Following the split in 1986, records have been more or less annual, how many of these have remained with Golden Plover flocks and returned is a matter of conjecture, but they are found in many parts of the country. They breed on Arctic Tundra both sides of the Bering Strait, but are found over a wide area of Asia and Pacific islands as non-breeders, obviously some birds migrate further as there are many European records.
