WESTERN SANDPIPER Calidris mauri

Breeding in northern Alaska and across the Bering Strait in small numbers, this is one of several confusing "peeps" as they are known in North America. Wintering on coasts as far south as northern South America, it is most easily confused with Semi-palmated Sandpiper, which is a far commoner transatlantic vagrant.
