Breeding in northern Alaska and across the 
Bering Strait in small numbers, this is one of several confusing "peeps" as they are known in 
North America. Wintering on coasts as far south as northern South America, it is most 
easily confused with Semi-palmated Sandpiper, which is a far commoner transatlantic 
vagrant.
