WATTLED JACANA
Jacana jacana
Very similar to other Jacanas, but possessing a distinctive greenish underwing and red face
wattle, this widespread species has six races,
some of which differ somewhat in appearence, for example the race occuring from W. Panama to
N. Columbia has all chestnut replaced by black. It is sedentary and there is only one record
from Chile, but it occurs in all other S. American countries. The right-hand bird is a juvenile.
