SAUNDER'S GULL Chroicocephalus saundersi

This small gull is probably the most endangered in the world, breeding areas in Eastern China were undiscovered until fairly recently, and habitat is still being lost. Wintering south as far as Hong Kong, some birds acquire summer plumage before migrating north in March/April. Seen well, the bill is quite distinctive in shape, possibly to cope with one of its main food sources, crabs.
