PERUVIAN THICKNEE Burhinus superciliaris

Restricted in range, this rather small, pale thicknee is almost a West Peruvian endemic, but occurs in Southern Ecuador. In "Shorebirds (1986)" it was said to have occurred in Chile only once, in 1851, but is now known to occur in small numbers in the North. These birds, taken in 1990, were probably the second and third records, but the area is underwatched and small numbers have undoubtedly always been there.
