ORIENTAL PLOVER Charadrius veredus

Another difficult bird to see on its breeding grounds, which is a shame because the breeding plumage is beautiful, although not all birds have a full white head. Most birders catch up with these in northern Australia, where they "winter". The best time is late September or October, after which they disperse in the vastness of the outback. These shots were taken on Roebuck Plains, near Broome Bird Observatory.
