Far easier to see than the previous species, this is the regular curlew of North America, and is common over much of Western USA and Canada. Not a long-distance migrant, wintering on southern coasts as far as Honduras. Although there are records of vagrancy the furthest is Venezuela, so a Palearctic appearence is unlikely. Easy to see where it got its name, the range of bill lengths overlaps several other species but it does boast the longest of all. |
