AFRICAN JACANA
Actophilornis africanus

Taken in Namibia, this species and the similar Madagascar and Lesser Jacanas constitue the African representatives of the family. Also known as lily-trotters because their large toes enable them to do just that, they are common in most tropical wetlands throughout the world, and reach more temperate areas in South and Central America, Northern Jacana occasionally breeds in Texas.
