HUDSONIAN GODWIT Limosa haemastica
| PREVIOUS |
A sort of holy grail to British birders who await a return, the only records being a bird which wintered in 1981-2 and 1982-3, and a single-observer one-day bird in 1988. This species is an unlikely vagrant to Europe, and is not easy to see in many parts of North America since it migrates from the Canadian Arctic to Argentina and Chile. However, it has been recorded on the other side of the Pacific several times, including long-staying birds in New Zealand, one of which is shown here moulting into breeding plumage. |
