Recently reclassified as Tringa, the two Tattler species are extremely difficult to separate, especially in non-breeding plumage. Birds in winter quarters frequently meet in the South Pacific, this, also known as Siberian Tattler, arriving from the Asian side, Wandering from the American. Grey-tailed is a familiar winterer on South-east Asian and Australian coasts, and tends to prefer muddy estuaries or sandflats, birds are usually alone or in quite small groups. |
