Not particularly closely related to other Dotterels, as the term Dotterel is used interchangeably with Plover, particularly in Australasia, this bird is known for its reverse sexual dimorphism, the photo on the left being a female. Its range extends across the Palearctic, and whilst a rare breeder on high tops in Britain, it is familiar to most British birders as a migrant particularly in spring when "trips" often rest in the same area for several days every year. |
