BLACK TERN Chlidonias nigra

With a similar distribution to White-winged Tern, but only extending to Central Asia, this is the only Chlidonias species to occur in the Americas, but that has long been mooted as a potential split, so is treated seperately. An annual passage migrant in the UK, more common in some years than others. There are a few records of (attempted) breeding, but although suitable habitat exists, birds usually move on quickly.
