BEACH THICKNEE
Burhinus magnirostris

Also taken in Queensland, Beach Thicknee is very much harder to track down than its Bush counterpart, and very different in appearence, the large bill aids the taking of crabs etc. Being crepuscular they tend to spend their days hidden in mangroves which are largely innaccessible. We searched several beaches before finding this bird, one of a pair, which proved obliging. They run over large areas but will approach if you stay still. By an hour after dawn they had flown to roost.
