BANDED LAPWING Vanellus tricolor

This handsome plover is widespread in Australia but quite thin on the ground, there are few regular sites but any journey passing by its habitat, which is semi-arid grassland, is likely to reveal a few birds or a small flock. One regular breeding site is the golf course on Rottnest Island, where two of these shots were taken, the one with chicks was on a Plains Wanderer tour.
