BLACK STORK Ciconia nigra

Widespread but nowhere numerous, breeding from Estonia to China, this species is migratory, although apparently a southern African population exists which only does so altitudinally. A vagrant to the UK, the nearest breeding birds are a remnant population in Spain & Portugal. A fairly regular vagrant to the UK, the left bird was taken in Suffolk in the 1990's.
