WHITE-WINGED DUCK Asarcornis scutulata

An endangered duck, now placed in its own genus, rarely seen in the wild as it is a nocturnal forest dweller on lowland rivers. Numbers are thought to be less than 1000, but it used to occur throughout most of South-east Asia and possibly still does, main known areas are Assam, Bangladesh and Malaysia. Various captive breeding programmes are underway, these birds were taken at WWT Slimbridge.
