WHISTLING SWAN Cygnus (columbianus) bewickii

The nominate form of Tundra Swan, differing mainly in an all-black bill with just a yellow spot, although hybrids occur and the two subspecies may represent extremes of a cline. There is a size difference but genetic studies are required. Breeding across North America and wintering on West and East coasts, vagrants have occurred in Europe including the UK. I haven't been lucky enough to photograph one so these are captive birds.
