SILVER TEAL Spatula versicolor

Smaller and much more widespread than Puna Teal, with a distinctive yellow patch at the base of the bill, Silver Teal inhabits lowland pools and small lakes with vegetation over most of southern South America from central Chile, with some northwards dispersal in the austral winter north to Brazil. The Falklands and Tierra del Fuego hold a different race, fretensis which also occurs in southernmost Chile and Argentina. Left-hand birds are captives, the others were taken in Argentina.
