HAWAIIAN DUCK Anas wyvilliana

An endangered and somewhat enigmatic mallard, once found on all Hawaiian islands but now restricted to two, plus a further two where re-introductions have taken place. Very similar to female Mallard, the male only attains a slight darkening on the head, if at all. The only shot I have was taken at WWF Slimbridge, but looks more Mallard-like than most photos on the internet. However, the reason this species is in decline is because of hybridisation, it could even be a hybrid population in the first place. I shall endeavour to find other captive birds, or go to Hawaii!
