FUEGIAN STEAMER DUCK Tachyeres pteneres

The largest of the steamer ducks, because of this tends not to fly, but the old name of flightless steamer duck has been dropped because all three other species of steamer can actually "fly", although only for short distances and with little manouverability. Tending to be more coastal than Flying Steamers for obvious reasons, this species occupies the same coastlines, but not as far north as the Chubut Peninsular. Photos were taken in Tierra del Fuego.
