BRAZILIAN TEAL (or DUCK) Amazonetta brasiliensis

An aberrant dabbling duck, widespread across forest rivers and lakes in South America as far south as Argentina, although not west of the Andes. There are two races, the northern, smaller race is largely resident and occurs over most of the region. A larger race ipecutiri occurs in the south and is migratory. A fairly nondescript duck, it occurs in dark and light phases, although the differences are slight, chiefly on the head, and intermediates occur. The southern race seems to be predominantly dark, as shown here (taken in Argentina).
