WHITE-BILLED DIVER or YELLOW-BILLED LOON Gavia adamsii

A High Arctic breeder from North-west Canada to about Murmansk in western Russia, a fairly regular visitor to waters around Scotland and islands. A number of English records include these birds on a Lincolnshire river, although inland records are extremely rare the species occured twice on the same stretch of water with a twenty four year gap. Nowadays birds are commonly found wintering off Scottish and northern island coasts, a few spend the summer in the far north (Shetland), one day I'll photograph one in breeding plumage.
