NEOTROPIC (OLIVACEOUS) CORMORANT Nannopterum brasilianum

Formerley called Olivaceous Cormorant, this widespread relative of Double-crested and Flightless Cormorants is found both inland and coastally from the Great Plains to Tierra del Fuego, also Cuba and the Bahamas. The nominate race is the more southern, ranging from Costa Rica, where the breeding bird was taken, south. The northern race is mexicanum, which is smaller but with a larger bill. Both are essentially sedentary and nest in colonies of varying sizes.
