LESSER FRIGATEBIRD Fregata ariel

The smallest Frigatebird, although marginally so and not obviously on lone birds. Found in the tropics of the three major oceans, but the Atlantic population is confined to Trindade Island, and is a proposed split. Otherwise it is largely sympatric with Great Frigatebird, the adult males have a diagnostic white "spur" across the axilliaries and the females a white nuchal collar. Three subspecies have been described, one in each ocean.
