BLACK-FACED CORMORANT Phalacrocorax fuscescens

Another Australian endemic, but not threatened, the population being in the tens of thousands. It is found from southern coasts of Western Australia to south-east NSW, also Tasmania and islnds in the Bass Strait. A winter breeder, it nests exclusively on cliffs, and spends the non-breeding season in adjacent waters, being exclusively marine, except for an occasional sighting in estuaries. Although only one race is known, there are two distinct populations, with a gap in South Australia and eastern Western Australia.
