A recent, and not universally accepted, split from Black-browed, it
breeds solely on Campbell Island, although Black-browed also breeds there and there is no evidence of hybridisation.
The only diagnostic feature is the yellow eye in adults, whilst the underwing pattern is slightly different it is shared with
subadult Black-broweds. Younger birds cannot be safely distinguished, although when we visited the New Zealand Subantarctic
examination of photos revealed 95% of adult birds to be Campbell.
